Weekly gas report: West Hawaii motorists see slight decline in price

In West Hawaii, with the exception of the Waikoloa resort area, motorists were paying $3.43 between Monday (April 13) and Friday (April 17). That’s down once cent from the week prior. Including the Waikoloa resort area, where prices are normally higher, West Hawaii motorists this week doled out on average $3.48, also down one cent from the week before.

In Kailua-Kona, drivers doled out on average $3.34 per gallon this week, unchanged from the week prior, the data showed. At the Kailua-Kona Costco, where membership is required, a gallon still averaged $2.99.

In Waimea, drivers doled out $3.51 per gallon while drivers paid $3.52 in Waikoloa Village. Fueling a vehicle in the Waikoloa resort area cost motorists an average of $3.69 per gallon this week. All gas prices in South Kohala have gone unchanged for the past several weeks.

In Kealakekua, motorists doled out $3.34 per gallon this week, down three cents from last week, according to the GasBuddy.com data.

Fueling up in Hilo during the week cost drivers a penny more this week at $3.06 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.com data. AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report put the average price of gas at $3.10 per gallon during the week, down four cents from last week. AAA does not track gas prices for other Big Island areas.

The statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel was down slightly from $3.11 to $3.09 between Monday and Friday, according to AAA. One year ago, Hawaii residents $4.32 for the same gallon of gas.

In Honolulu, a gallon of gas averaged $2.95, according to AAA. Drivers in the Wailuku area of Maui paid $3.245.

Nationwide, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline this week was unchanged at $2.40.

California for the seventh consecutive week paid the most for gas at $3.10 per gallon. South Carolina drivers paid the least at $2.12 per gallon.
